Hello! My name is Kayla Sabo. I obtained my undergraduate and graduate degree in social work from Grand Valley State University. I am a clinical social worker meaning, I am licensed to diagnose and treat mental, behavioral, and emotional disorders. A clinical social worker helps patients develop strategies to change behavior or cope with difficult situations and refer patients to other resources or services, such as support groups or other mental health professionals within the community.Through job experience my interest in systems within my community has grown. I want to continue to support and advocate for those that are oppressed, those that are different from myself.

My passion for social work comes from personal life experience. I grew up in a small, rural community who held an ideation that people did not suffer from mental illness, especially children. It was after moving to Muskegon in my adolescence, that I met a school social worker who had an enormous impact on my life. As a result of moving in my youth, I knew I wanted to be a social worker as I began to experience individuals and communities who were treated differently than myself. I am eager to utilize the skills I have obtained in my graduate studies, to grow as a social worker. I am currently working with the adolescent population and hope to have the opportunity to positively impact their lives, as social work once did for me.
