• Billing Specialist

SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Billing Manager, oversees all aspects of the billing process including charges, statements, posting all payer and patient receipts, balancing daily, follow-up on all claims, working rejections, and problem solving with bother payers and patients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following.

  • Responsible for entering any charges necessary including hospital charges.
  • Processing and mailing of all statements.
  • Post all payers and patient receipts to patient accounts.
  • Balancing of charge and receipt summaries on a daily basis and reviewing with the Finance and Compliance Manager.
  • Follow-up and problem solving on any unpaid claims.
  • Work all rejections to insure adequate payment in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a courteous, helpful, and conscientious attitude in dealing with co-workers, patients, and their families, ensuring professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

One-year certificate from college or completion of insurance billing course; preferred certified coder and/or a minimum of five years medical billing experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and professionally, before customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percents, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Completion of ICD9/ICD10and CPT Coding courses. Certified coder certification.
