Melissa Brown, DO, FASAM, is an Addiction Medicine physician and serves as the Addiction Medicine Program Director at Muskegon Family Care. She has been practicing addiction medicine since 2019, providing care to both rural and urban communities throughout West Michigan, and joined Muskegon Family Care in January 2026.
Dr. Brown received her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internship at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, followed by her residency at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. She is board certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Dr. Brown is passionate about reducing stigma and providing dignified, compassionate care to individuals with substance use disorders. She views addiction as a treatable chronic condition and incorporates evidence-based medications as part of comprehensive, whole-person care to support long-term recovery.
Prior to focusing exclusively on addiction medicine, Dr. Brown practiced for more than 15 years as a family physician. This experience gave her a deep understanding of how chronic illness—including addiction—affects not only individuals, but entire families and communities.
Outside of work, Dr. Brown enjoys spending time with her family, biking, and relaxing by the water.
